Many ethnic groups have made fabulous contributions to the United States. The African-American community is no exception. From athletes to activists, from Beyonce to Michael Jackson, some of the world’s greatest figures are African American, and today on First Voice we honor their legacies with a program dedicated to Black History Month.

We also share with you, our audience, a little known part of Black History. The story of a woman who has saved lives, and made valuable contributions to science even 60 years after her death. Through author Rebecca Skloot, we bring you the story of Henrietta Lacks. Tune in to First Voice on 90.5 fm today from 6 to 7pm CST to find out how the death of Mrs. Lacks, a poor African American woman, inadvertently launched the multi-billion dollar stem cell industry.

Join us on First Voice for our Black History Quickies- fast facts about prominent Black History figures, and lots of other news, info., and a good time. Right here on Radio Arte’s First Voice.

Take part in the discussions through our blog, twitter, or facebook, or myspace.

Hello Everyone,

As promised during yesterday’s edition of First Voice, below you will find info regarding donations to aid Haiti. You wil also find info regarding things mentioned during the Disabilities & Equality interview we aired.

The Red Cross is taking donations for the Haiti relief effort through its website at www.redcross.org, via telephone at 1.800.733.2767, or you can text the word HAITI to 90999 and a $10 donation will automatically be charged to your next cell phone bill.

Yesterday’s interview with Adam Ballard from Access Living brought up several questions, so I will answer a few of those here.

1. Where can I get more information about Access Living, their mission, and services?
A: Their website is www.accessliving.org, or you can call them at Voice 312.640.2118 TTY 312.640.2169

2. What is the 3E love logo?
A: The 3E Love logo is a symbol that has been used here in the U.S. to mean acceptance of people with disabilities and their allies. If you would like to see what the symbol looks like you can visit www.3elove.com. Here you can also learn how this company helps the disabled community.

Hope this information is useful to you.
